Call for Application for CAN Tanzania 2024/2025 Scholarship
ABOUT CAN TANZANIA SCHOLARSHIP
The Climate Action Network (CAN) Tanzania is pleased to announce 35 merit and need-based scholarships for the academic year 2024/2025; 10 Scholarships for Master, 10 for Bachelor and 15 for Diploma programmes. The scholarship aims to provide financial support to students in need who demonstrate academic excellence and have leadership potential to support community transformation.
1. Target Applicants:
The applicant must be:
(i) a Tanzanian.
(ii) an individual from a Civil Society Organization (CSO), Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Faith Based Organization (FBO), or Private Sector (such as non-state actors, companies, and business associations).
(iii) a woman or youth with potential leadership skills and committed to serve the communities after completion of studies.
(iv) primarily of financial need with career and initiative plans.
(v) admitted in the 2024/2025 cycle to an appropriate programme in the field areas of interest at an institution accredited in Tanzania.
(vi) in exceptional cases, postponed and continuing students (with 3 years (diploma/bachelor) or 2 years (master) of studies left to graduation may be considered with special justification.
2. Field Area for the Study Programme:
• Climate Change and Climate Protection.
• Gender Equity, Leadership, and Governance.
• Development Sustainability.
2.1. Diploma Programmes:
Animal Health Production, Agriculture Production, Renewable Energy Systems, Land Survey/Geomatics, Multimedia Digital Technologies, Fisheries, Forestry, Beekeeping, Meteorology/Climatology, Social Work.
2.2. Bachelor Programmes:
Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy, Youth/Gender, Disaster Risk Management, Renewable Energy, Range Management, Environmental Health, Meteorology/Climatology, Aquatic Sciences, Accounting/Taxation, Monitoring and Evaluation.
2.3. Master Programmes:
Climate Science and Sustainability, Food Security (Food Science or Nutrition), Water Resources/Environmental Management, Leadership/Governance, Agribusiness, Health Policy, Data Science/Analytics, Corporate/Organisation Management, Monitoring and Evaluation.
3. Scope of Scholarship:
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, meals and accommodation, books and stationery, field practical training or research funds, and direct cost to the University as stipulated in the respective institution fee structure.
4. Application Requirements:
(a) Diploma and Bachelor Applicants
(i) Must not be older than 25 years at the time of application.
(ii) Must have completed Ordinary Level Secondary School or Advanced Level Secondary School in 2022 or 2024.

3. Copies of secondary education certificate(s) (pdf).
4. Copy of birth certificate (pdf).
5. Copy of National Identity or NIDA Number (pdf).
6. One recommendation letter from the Ward Executive Office (stamped) (pdf).
(b) Master Applicant
(i) Must have at least 1 year of professional/volunteering experience.
(ii) Must not be older than 40 years at the time of application.
Complete application documents should consist of:
1. Completed online Application form.
2. Curriculum vitae (One page) include your leadership skills and extracurriculars (pdf).
3. Copies of secondary school and bachelor certificates and transcripts (pdf).
4. Copy of birth certificate (pdf).
5. Copy of National Identity or NIDA Number (pdf).
6. One recommendation letter from the Ward Executive Office (stamped) (pdf).
7. One recommendation letter from the sending organization/institution (stamped) (pdf).
5. General Conditions:
(i) The applicant shall study a full-time programme in the field areas of interest listed in Part 2.
(ii) Women and applicants with special needs are encouraged to apply.
(iii) CAN Tanzania Merit- and Need-Based Scholarship shall not be awarded concurrently with any other grant or loan or award to support the awardee for the same desired programme.
(iv) Provisional results, Statements of results, Form 4 and Form 6 results slips will not be taken into consideration.
(v) The maximum duration of a scholarship is 3 years (36 months) for Diploma and Bachelor students and 2 years (24 months) for Master students. However, the scholarship is renewable annually for subsequent academic years if the awardee meets the scholarship’s continuity eligibility requirements including the condition that the awardee should be a continuing student.
(vi) Scholarship beneficiaries shall conduct practical training or research work in CSOs or NGOs, FBOs or Private Sector (such as non-state actors, companies, and business associations) during their study period.

NOTE: The application deadline for the Scholarships is 20th October 2024 at midnight (E.A.T). Selection and awarding outcomes will be communicated to shortlisted applicants in October/November 2024.
