As we strive for Tanzania to make effective use of its' natural energy resources step by step, CAN Tanzania convened a very valuable workshop on the 29th and 30th of August 2024 in Bagamoyo. The workshop was attended by participants from different NGOs, Academic institutions and districts including Chalinze, Pangani, Lushoto and Bagamoyo, who discussed the need for and roles of local government authorities in promoting and adopting the transition to clean and affordable renewable energy by incorporating renewable energy aspects into their budgeting and planning.
Participants explored the need for renewable energy to enable sustainable development at the local level, focusing on the importance of integrating renewable energy within the Local Government Authorities' budget and plans. Stakeholders shared experiences, challenges, lessons learnt and case studies on renewable energy aspects.
Through this workshop, Local Government Authorities were empowered to lead the transition to renewable energy at the community level and were able to identify entry points for the integration of renewable energy within the Local Government Authority budget and plans. The participants are now well prepared to contribute and support the integration of renewable energies in the upcoming Local Government Authorities budgeting sessions. They will lead the way towards a sustainable energy future that bolsters local economies and fortifies resilient communities.
