Climate Action Network Tanzania participated in the NDC 3.0 Forum, taking place from March 24th to 28th, 2025, in Morogoro. This forum served as an important platform to evaluate and enhance the availability of information and support among various stakeholders in preparation for NDC 3.0. Additionally, it aimed to streamline the submission process to the UNFCCC Secretariat ahead of COP30. As a committed member of the Paris Agreement under the UNFCCC, the United Republic of Tanzania (URT) submits its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) every five years. With the current cycle (2020-2025) approaching its conclusion, Tanzania is seizing the opportunity to review and develop a more ambitious NDC 3.0, underscoring its dedication to climate action and sustainable development.
Towards development of NDC 3.0 there are three key components needed that are; climate vulnerability assessment report, Green House Gas (GHG) Inventory report and NDC 2.0 Impact assessment. The government of Tanzania, through the Vice President's Office and with support from the NDC Partnership, has commissioned CAN Tanzania and Genesis Analytics to conduct the NDC 2021 Impact Assessment. This assessment will highlight the potential environmental, social, and economic impacts of its implementation, progress, challenges, and areas of improvement for informing the development of NDC 3.0 and supporting the finalization of the NDC Implementation Plan.
During the NDC 3.0 Forum, CAN Tanzania actively engaged a diverse array of stakeholders by presenting a comprehensive overview of the current status and preliminary findings from the ongoing NDC impact assessment. This engagement fostered a fruitful exchange of insights, encouraging participants to reflect on the implementation of NDC 2.0 while also considering critical elements for the development of NDC 3.0. Representatives from both state and non-state actors across various sectors contributed to the dialogue, enriching the discussions with their unique perspectives. The forum served as an invaluable platform for open conversation and data collection, illuminating key reflections from NDC 2.0 that are pivotal for crafting informed and actionable strategies for the development and implementation of NDC 3.0.
CAN Tanzania is dedicated to enhancing climate governance, policy development, and implementation, with a focus on making the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 both ambitious and practical. This commitment aims to ensure meaningful and impactful outcomes for the country's climate initiatives.
